Seattle Non-tourist Attractions?
My boyfriend just moved to Seattle and I’m flying out to visit him for 5 days next week. What are some must-see and must-do attractions that locals swear by? I mean, I already know about the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, 5th Avenue, etc., but I want the nitty-gritty real-deal. (I’m from New Orleans, so I know what it’s like to have everything you know and love about a place bastardized, commodified, packaged, and sold to ignorant tourists as “culture”.) Just as Bourbon Street isn’t the real New Orleans, I expect that the Space Needle isn’t what’s going to give me a real Seattle. Any local’s suggestions would be much appreciated!

This August I’ll be taking my VW Golf to move from WA to New York and I’ve heard that it’s all tolls from Wisconsin to NY, but I can’t figure out how much the tolls will total. We’ll be taking I-90 and probably I-94 from Billings to Chicago. Has anyone made this trip recently and remember approximately how much it cost?

We are 1st time cruisers. We are taking Holland America’s Alaska cruise from Seattle in mid-Sept. 2006 aboard its “Zaandam” ship. We are taking 2 senior citizen couples with us. Will they have things to do? What do the staterooms look like? We have 3 Oceanview rooms. What can you tell me about food options – we are all vegetarians? What is included in the price we paid? Are spa services and fitness center use included or is there separate charges? What should we take with us for clothing? Will I have motion sickness? How to prevent/treat that? Prayers are still being said daily for all of our Trivia Friends and Family and hoping all will continue to get stronger as each day passes.
from Sunday night: Lincoln is having another good day! Even his doctor, who is usually pretty grim, admitted that he thinks Lincoln is almost out of the woods! First thing Monday morning the surgeon is going to take one last look at his stoma, before deciding if he will take him back to the OR. We pray that it will miraculously spring a little leak tonight! Either way, Lincoln is in Gods hands. Lincoln has to gain 530grams, then he will get to wear clothes! I am so excited for that day, even though it is probably a month away His grandparents and aunties are too, because they might be able to actually get to give him hugs and kisses then!
