Was She A Criminal Or Was Her True Love A Victim Of The Law?

Mary Kay Letourneau, thirty-year old teacher grabbed headlines in 1997 when she pleaded guilty to the criminal act of statutory rape (rape of a child) of 12 year-old student Vili Fualaau, who Letourneau said was her ‘soul mate’. At the time Fualaau’s father was serving a prison sentence for armed robbery.

Letourneau openly declared at her trial she knew had done wrong and asked for help. She served three months of her sentence and was then placed on probation. She had to enroll in a three-year treatment program for sex offenders. Yet, it was only one month later that she was again caught having sexual relations with the teenager. It appeared the couple had plans to skip out of the country.

Her probation was revoked and Letourneau was hastily returned to jail, where it was discovered she was pregnant with the student’s second child. Letourneau was placed in six months of solitary confinement, in November 1999, for trying to smuggle letters to Fualaau.

Fualaau’s family sued the Highline School and city of Des Moines, Washington, in 2002 for emotional suffering, lost wages and the costs of rearing his two children. He said the school had not protected him from Letourneau. The jury sided with the defendant’s lawyer in that ‘Nothing would keep Letourneau and Fualaau apart’.

Letourneau finished her 7.5 year sentence, the maximum that could be imposed for child rape, with no parole given for good behaviour. Superior Court Jude Linda Lau, in 2004, raised the restriction she had placed the couple under, allowing them to see each other once more. The couple were married on May 20th 2005, in a tightly guarded ceremony, which brought an illicit seduction to a close. The two daughters acting as flower girls. The television show Entertainment Tonight was given exclusive rights to the wedding.

The four children from Letourneau’s first marriage remained living with their father. Her two younger children, under the ruling of the court, still live with their grandmother.

John Schmitz, Mary’s father, also caused a scandal when his long-term affair with a former student was revealed. He fathered two children to the student. Mary also went through marital problems when her first husband, Steve Letourneau indulged in numerous extramarital affairs.

Letourneau and Fualaau not only sold sell their wedding photos, but authored a book about their ‘love affair’. Now the couple are hosting a ‘Hot for Teacher Night’, at a Seattle bar.

Letourneau will be always registered as a sex offender.

Living on a Houseboat

The popularity of houseboats is gaining strength as time goes by, especially in the United States. They have become a primary option for families and friends who would want to take a break from their daily routines and try something new. Some people would take the idea of living in a houseboat on a whole different level and turning it into a way of life.

Houseboats are basically boats which have been modified or have been designed to be able to accommodate individuals or families who would want to live afloat waters. A houseboat is (as the name implies) a combination of a boat and a house and is primarily used for the purposes of dwelling. There are houseboats which have motors and can be used to travel, while other houseboats are stationary, usually tied-up to a single place.

Houseboats all over the world

All over the world, houseboats are being patronized. There are countless numbers of styles and functions of houseboats. Some houseboats are permanent places of residence by local people, such as in Southeast Asia, while some houseboats are rented as vacation hotels. Houseboats are also popular in Kerala, India, where dense populations live by the Dal Lake. One can find the most exquisite and expensive houseboats in Europe, particularly in the waters of Amsterdam in Netherlands. Amsterdam is home to a number of houseboat- hotels which have become favorites of visiting foreigners. Aside from these houseboat-hotels, there is an estimated 2,500 families are living in houseboats in Amsterdam.

Down south, in Australia, houseboats are also well-known, especially in the River of Murray. One can find houseboats of different functions and sizes in this river. There are motorized and stationary houseboats here, some of which serve as primary residence while some are used as holiday shacks.

In U.K., the narrow boats, which traverse the canals, also serve as a dwelling place for some. One can even rent one of these boats if he needs a place to stay in for the night.

In the United States, houseboats have gained a stronghold. During the 1940s, the activity that is “houseboating” emerged as people tried to find more ways of being able to interact with water more. The modern concept of houseboating in the United States is said to have come from the waters of Lake Cumberland, which is located in Kentucky. Lake Union in Seattle is also a haven for houseboats.

Living on a houseboat

There are two main situations that come into play when thinking about living in a houseboat. The first one is that an individual or a family would like to live on a houseboat for good. The next one is that someone is thinking about living on a houseboat for a vacation. Well, if one is thinking about living on a houseboat for good, he might as well try it first to see whether he would really want to live on a houseboat permanently or not.

Living on a houseboat can be compared to a normal life in a subdivision or a rented apartment. The basic activity, which is “dwelling’ basically stays the same in different locations. However, there are many factors that come into play when you live on a houseboat. Safety and security are two main things that one has to consider when looking at a houseboat. Another issue is space, a houseboat may not be as spacious as the normal house in a subdivision, if you know what I mean. Another important issue is access- when you live on a houseboat, you may have to transfer to a place which is far from other important places such as Wal-Mart or the convenience store. Other things like parking space, cost of transferring and the overall sturdiness o the houseboat should also be considered.

One might need to go into a houseboat vacation to be able to appreciate the beauty of living in a houseboat and be able to make an objective assessment whether to live in one or not. There are many companies that are offering houseboats for vacation. Just make sure that you canvass as many companies as you can to be able to spend a nice time in the boat which you would prefer.

Houseboats are nice. Living in a houseboat is also a nice thing to think about, however, it is not meant for all people. Think about it thoroughly until your mind and your heart agrees with a specific decision.

Link Building Company – Boost Your Web Hits With Effective Online Marketing

Link building is one of the most effective and affordable online marketing strategies available. In times of economic recession, you should be seeking out the services of a link building company to ensure you keep your name front of mind for potential customers.

Link Building is Highly Recommended

If you’ve done any reading of the business pages lately, you’ve probably found lots of tips on how to survive the recession. The consensus across these articles is that you should not give up on your efforts to market your company. Your competitors will quickly take over any ground you give up in the publicity race.

So, how can you continue to market when you have a limited budget? Try search engine optimization (SEO). A recent article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer provided some great tips on how to use simple SEO techniques to improve your company’s organic search engine results. (Organic indicates that you appear high in search engine rankings naturally, and have not paid to be there.) The article suggests that you improve your Web site content and also build a web of links from other sites.

One thing the article does not mention is that link building is becoming an increasingly important factor in SEO. In fact, writer Ron Callari believes that in 2009, Google will shift its algorithm to 90% links and only 10% page content.

Clearly, link building is the way to go. But how do you get started? A few years ago, a simple link exchange with partners and clients was considered a good way to begin. The situation has changed in the last little while, and link building is considerably more involved than it once was.

Link Building Companies Have the Expertise You Need

A link building company can advise you on the most effective methods for increasing inbound links to your company’s Website. If you have a strict budget, they can tailor the solutions to your finances. They may use a combination of any of the following techniques, outlined in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer article:

• Maps – Get a listing in map sites like Google Maps. With Google turning to universal search (listing everything from Web pages to images to news items in its search engine results), a map listing not only provides a link, it may also be included in search results.

• Social Media – Use the many social media sites out there to build a profile for your business and create links to your site.

• Blogs – Start a blog for your business. Use it to communicate and create links to your site.

• Articles – Write content (with links) for online article and press release databases.

Sounds straightforward, so why do you need a link building company? Here are just a few reasons:

• The content and links must contain keywords that are relevant to your business. Solid keyword research is needed before you can start building links.

• It is not enough to just write an occasional article or blog post. You need a detailed plan for continual generation of content. The more you have, the more often you will be found by search engines. The more you are found, the more relevant you are deemed to be. The more relevant, the higher the search engine ranking.

• Some databases require payment. A link building company can advise you which ones are worth paying for so you can avoid the trap of spending money on something that offers little return.

Link building is critical to successful SEO. With a link building company on your side, you can take advantage of this highly targeted and effective marketing method.

Perfect For Budget Constraints

I paid a visit my sister in The Big Apple who is employed in the hospital last month. It has been about 7 years since we last run into each other. I missed her heaps and I have been wishing to see her for the longest time. Coincidentally, my husband will be attending a vital business organization meeting in, guess where?, the city of New York. This would be an excellent chance for me to go and see my sister since the convention will take about three days straight. With that in mind, I asked my husband if I could come along, and as luck would have it he said yes.

I had already prepared an itinerary for the continuance of my stay in New York and I’m genuinely excited about it. En route to New York I was thinking of the American symbolisation of freedom, the Statue of Liberty; the Empire State Building – because of the movie Sleepless in Seattle I wanted to be just like Meg Ryan; The Grand Central Terminal; Rockefeller Center and check out the Radio City Music Hall; The Immigration Museum at Ellis Island; the Stanton Island Ferry, the Museum of Natural History of America; Central Park; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Grab a quick of of Gray’s papaya hotdogs and have a quick run through at the Museum of Modern Art. There are so many things to see, and several sites to go, hopefully I would be able to accomplish all of this in three days.

When we arrived, my hubby was off to his business gathering at once and I and my sister blasted off at once since we have numerous things to discuss. One thing I found out in New York is that individuals are invariably in a rush.

Life in The Big Apple is awfully instant that if you tend to be wearisome then you will certainly be left behind. It is a good thing humankind was able to come up with devices like the mobile phone to make life much easier.
